An individual who laced treats with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on recently.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepson alerted the police about his concerns.
She stated the defendant proceeded to play the "candy game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police a second time.
She said the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
