19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to win a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led some to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
