Vehicles in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were contacted by a resident who found a car in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then found numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials state early analysis show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A high-ranking political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
